Robin stirred, feeling his head pounding. Deciding it best to not open his eyes yet. He moved a little testing his body worked before checking what he was wearing before slowly opening his eyes. "Did I win?"
He wore a soft sweat suit and socks.
"No." Her voice held faint amusement and concern as she stopped and looked at him.
"Dang" he grumbled softly. "Hmm, next time" he said moving to get up.
"Slowly," she said sternly, a trace of the Bat in her voice.
"Yeah yeah" he said ignore the suggestion
"If you fall off the bed and crack your head open, don't blame me." She turned away and tinkered with a machine, though she watched him in a nearby mirrored surface.
"I won't" he said almost certain
She turned back and watched with impassiveness that showed even through the mask. She also loomed most Bat-ishly.
"You related to hot wheels?"
She quirked an eyebrow behind the mask. "I was Batwoman."
She looked at him for a moment, then listed off his name, date of birth, and place of birth, then added, "You do realize you're in the wrong Gotham?"
He blinked slowly at her "I kindda figured that out when the Clown didn't know Batman had wheels. And was surprised that I'm a petty crook at the weekends and you are?"
"If you're a protege of the Batman you should be able to work that out on your own." Her voice held a trace of Bat coldness as she resumed her work among the machines.
"Bruce don't have family. And you ain't Nightwing or supes"
"Rachel Grayson died with her parents."
He looked at her with a slow vacant blink.
"Her mother called her by the nickname 'Robin'."
Still that slow blank look "If this is bat history best be just tellin' me"
"Bruce was really scraping the barrel when he found you, wasn't he?" she said dryly, turning away. "There's food on the table by the bed. Someone will come and get you in a few minutes."
This said, she put her palm to the lock and left the room.
"I FOUND HIM I'LL HAVE you......... food?" yep distracted he started to eat
He was alone for several minutes, and then a dapper elderly man walked into the room, his clothing and attitude showing him to be a butler. "Are you finished with your plates, young sir?"
He flashed his warmest smile "Hmm yes thank you Sir" he said.
"I am no sir," he corrected. "I am Alfred. And you are...?"
"Very well, Master Robin. If you are quite finished your meal would you be so kind as to accompany me? My employer has agreed to let you lodge in her home until such time as you find your way back to your own."
"Just Robin" he grinned "Although you can call me Dee" he said brightly. "Bruce talks about you like your...........a superhero"
"Very well, Master Robin." Alfred picked up the tray, then quirked an eyebrow. "Does he, then?"
"No no Not Master" he smiled before nodding "yeah you made him the man he is, taught him right from wrong yadda yada yada"
"Ah," he said, understanding who the boy was talking about. Then he nodded to the pair of plain sneakers under the bed. "If you would be so kind as to put those on, Master Robin, we can be away."
He pulled them on with a groan "Robin......... robin, no master..... robin"
"Very good, Master Robin." He turned toward the door.
He groaned "ROBIN no master ROBIN"
"Very good, Master Robin." There was sternness in Alfred's voice, and it was clear that he was not dropping the title.
"Robin" he said bouncing along behind him. "Robin Robin robin robin robin"
"If you wish to behave like a toddler, Master Robin, I am certain that I can find some appropriate toddler activities for you," said the elderly butler sternly. "Perhaps you would like to watch Barnie? Or Dora the Explorer?"
"Barney is really scarey" he said "A bit purple monster with a funny voice that plays with kids?" he shuddered. "But ok fine. BUT I'm gonna call you Master Alfred until you drop the master bit"
"You do, and you'll stay locked in that room till I find out how to send you home," came the female Bat voice from a speaker.
"I'll go now" he offered "I don't have no one call me master"
Alfred passed out of the room and closed the door in obedience to an order from the small comm in his ear.
There was a soft hiss and suddenly Robin felt very sleepy.
He scowled hand going to where he kept his own gadgets fighting the feeling.
He woke several moments later in Logan's Place, wearing his uniform and a note addressed to Bruce that said, "My condolences."
He grinned brightly "mm thats better"
