A Different Gotham
Jim Gordon sighed as he pulled up to the Wayne mansion, still reeling over discovering the true identity of the Batwoman.|
He stopped the car, then picked up the fresh bundle of carnations he'd picked up on the way back from the late shift, going up to the door and lifting his hand to knock, only to suddenly hear an angry scream and then the sounds of a heated argument coming from inside.
Suddenly an older woman Gordon knew as the poor-treating doctor Leslie opened the door suddenly, looking hassled and inviting him inside. He frowned and entered, then started and bolted for the crashing sound coming from a side room that was the opposite direction from the parlor where he'd been invited.
"Er, all right," he said, looking around.
She pointed to where a chair stood near the smaller computer station, which still bore a few action figures and game cases.
He blinked, then took the chair and smiled.
"Let's crack this case wide open," he said cheesily.
Brenda blinked at him, then gave a surprised snort of laughter before showing him a picture of the Penguin and starting to relate all the points that she'd managed to build up against the seemingly untouchable kingpin. Engrossed in the case, she and the Commissioner soon lost track of time. Gordon's falling asleep in his chair finally alerted them to the fact that they'd not only missed the intended meal, but another along the way. When they made their way upstairs a smiling Alfred offered the Commissioner the use of a guest bedroom.
"No, no, I really should get home," he mumbled, rubbing his eyes, then turning to Brenda.
"I... I enjoyed this," he said seriously. "Thank you."
"Drive safely." Her voice was soft as she reached for his hand. "We'll have to do this again... or meet in town for lunch, sometime."
"I'd like that," he said, smiling gently. Then he blinked and nodded to Alfred before bidding them a good night and leaving, smiling to himself slightly as he thought of the rare moments where Brenda let the inner Bat drop and smiled.
She turned away with a smile, only to nearly come face to face with Leslie and frown puzzledly at the look on her heart mother's face. "What?"
"You intend to start dating the Commisioner?" she blinked.
Brenda's jaw squared slightly. "I intend to see where this goes. You wanted me to have a normal life."
"Well... you might have piced somebody a little less high profile," she chuckled.
